How-To Tips for Family Caregivers

My recent post “Released From the Hospital, Now What?” focused on only one of the difficult moments faced by family caregivers. Now here’s a video series for children and spouses assisting older adults at home. You’ll find practical how-to tips on a variety of medical/nursing tasks few of us are prepared to do.

AARP Policy Institute’s Home Alone Revisited report highlighted a lack of training for family caregivers in performing complex care tasks. This fantastic reference series is a great step toward addressing those concerns.

The Home Alone AllianceSM, a multisector response to the 2012 Home Alone report, produced this family caregiver “how-to” video series. It includes accompanying tip sheets and select videos available in Spanish. These resources provide instruction to family caregivers who perform medical/nursing tasks. They also help nurses and practitioners by demonstrating how to best instruct caregivers, engaging them as key members of the care team.
