Naturally Inspired

I find myself naturally-inspired to write and make art by the impact of the world outside. Those sights and sounds stir up the swamp waters within. However I’m not comfortable painting “en plein air” – the breeze and sun challenge the fluidity of my watercolor mixtures and the pollen and bugs distract attention from my strokes. Thus on a recent sunny day, I was motivated to relocate some of my art tools and supplies…

Kindred Spirits

Oliver Sacks, neurologist, philosopher, author (July 9, 1933-Aug. 30, 2015) wrote, “I cannot say exactly how nature exerts its calming and organizing effects on our brains, but I have seen in my patients the restorative and healing powers of nature and gardens, even for those who are deeply disabled neurologically. In many cases, gardens and nature are more powerful than any medication.”
